Buckingham Palace has announced it will not hold any large-scale events until next year.
Officials worry they won't be able to accommodate large numbers of people at the palace due to coronavirus social distancing requirements.
Aides tried to work out if ceremonies could take place in line with government guidelines, but it was not deemed possible.
A statement on its website reads: "In line with current government guidelines, and as a sensible precaution in the current circumstances, there will be no large-scale events held at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle for the rest of the year.
"A variety of possibilities were examined to see if it was possible for investitures to safely take place in line with the guidelines.
"Sadly, due to the large numbers of guests and recipients attending, it was not possible to find a way of safely delivering these events in the current circumstances. Recipients will be contacted directly.
"The Queen's intention remains to return to Windsor Castle in October and to resume the use of Buckingham Palace during an autumn programme of audiences and engagements, in line with all relevant guidance and advice."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier revealed that hundreds of medical workers and community heroes will be recognised in The Queen’s birthday honours this month.
The PM praised the “dedication, courage and compassion” shown by the recipients – including doctors, nurses, care workers, volunteers and fundraisers – who will be honoured on October 10.
Johnson said: “As we all redouble our efforts to control the virus, protect the NHS and save lives this winter, I am pleased we have an opportunity to recognise those who have given so much to this country already.
“We all have to play our part, but the dedication, courage and compassion seen from these recipients, be it responding on the frontline or out in their communities providing support to the most vulnerable, is an inspiration to us all.
“We owe them a debt of gratitude and the 2020 Queen’s Birthday honours will be the first of many occasions where we can thank them as a nation.”
