A seven-year-old girl who was out walking with her mum was grabbed by a stranger, police have said.

The horrifying incident took place at around 5pm on Thursday, October 22, in Mary Datchelor Close in Camberwell, London.

The girl was put on the man's shoulder and he her carried for around 100 metres before dropping her and running off.

Met Police said the girl had not been hurt during the ordeal, although the force added that an urgent investigation is now underway.

The man is described as wearing a yellow sleeveless tabard over a black long-sleeved top with blue jeans.

Police added the suspect is a black man "of stocky build" although they cannot be certain how old he is.

The force is now appealing for anyone with information about the horrifying incident to contact them.

In a statement, the Met Police said: "At around 5pm on Thursday, October 22, the girl was walking near her mother on the pavement in Mary Datchelor Close when the man grabbed the girl, put her over his shoulder and carried her for around 100 metres before dropping her.

"The girl was not physically injured and the man made off on foot.

"The suspect is described as a black man of stocky build.

"He was wearing a yellow sleeveless tabard over a black long-sleeved top with blue jeans. His approximate age is not known.

"An urgent investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances. This includes enquiries to identify relevant CCTV footage."
