A cat owner set up a secret camera after her son said he was afraid of the kitchen cupboard and her neighbour complained of "banging" noises – with a surprising result.
In the clip, uploaded on TikTok by user @justme477, she explains that the noises were happening when she wasn't at home.
"When I asked my son he said the cupboards open and close and he is afraid," she adds.
Trying to solve the mystery, she set up a camera and after three hours of recording the culprit was finally caught red-handed.
Footage shows the cupboard banging open and closes, seemingly as if on its own.
Several seconds later, a clawed paw comes out of the doorway, followed by a furry face, as a cat struts out of its hiding place.
The footage has been watched more than 65,000 times on the video-sharing app and many viewers admitted they were "terrified".
"Anyone else immediately think it was a ghost?" asked one person.
Someone else joked: "I already brought out my Bible and holy water before I saw the cat."
A third viewer commented: "No lie. When it started to open I thought I’d see a gremlin but it was just a furry gremlin."
"Omg I was genuinely terrified at first," said another fan.
Some people suggested she get child locks to stop the cat hiding in the cupboards, or else use rubber pads to dampen the noise so the neighbour stops complaining.
This comes after a Bengal cat was filmed trying to break into a kitchen cupboard – only to hilariously fail at the last moment in slow-motion footage.
Meanwhile, another cat was caught on pet cam setting its own tail on fire and looking totally unbothered while the dog began to panic.
Some people joked it was evidence that cats are "sociopaths".
