This is the heartbreaking moment a seven-year-old girl found out schools will be closed under the new lockdown – leaving her in tears.

Jeffie Smith, from Beeston, Leeds, sobbed “I just want to learn” after she was told of Boris Johnson’s new regulations.

The video, taken by dad Geoff, captures a devastated Jeffie saying: “I want to see my friends at school and learn.”

Geoff tries to comfort the schoolgirl by explaining the situation, adding: “There’s nothing I can do. There’s a disease going around and we have to be careful and protect the older and vulnerable people.”

But Jeffie continues to sob when she’s asked if she will miss her friends.

Her dad, a business owner, caught Covid-19 last year and told Leeds Live he has tried to be honest about the situation.

Geoff said: “There’s probably a lot of other kids feeling the same way, she’s over it now but you know my daughters are a bit cheesed off, for nearly a year and there's been no school.

“It’s absolute madness, it’s like living in a movie, it’s absolutely crazy and it's slowly getting worse.

“There’s no one to blame for it or even point fingers, there’s still even people thinking it’s fake. It’s just a mess.”

He also joked about the struggles of homeschooling, as he often has “no idea” about some of the schoolwork Jeffie has.

"I’ve got no idea how to do some of it, it’s beyond what I was taught but now the kids just want to play out and see their friends at school,” he added. “It’s not even anyone’s fault.”
