A disabled dog whose family were hoping for one last Christmas with him has gone missing – wearing his Xmas jumper.
Barney, an 18-year-old German Shepherd cross, is partially deaf and blind and has arthritis in his back legs.
Barney’s owner, Paul Robinson has spent the entire weekend searching his local area, with his wife and daughters, for any sign of the elderly pooch.
He’s also started a Facebook appeal to in hope of finding the lost dog. He wrote: ”He’s 18 years old, in ill health and was gonna be put to sleep after one last Xmas with him and for us to be robbed of that time is tearing us apart.”
Paul, who runs a pizza restaurant in Middlesborough, told Teeside Live there has only one sighting so far and even though he rushed to where a dog wearing a red jumper had been seen, he had no luck: ”I’ve contacted police, dog wardens, Maxis Mates, vets and nothing.
"I am now operating on the fact that someone with either good or bad motives has took him home or he’s trapped in someone’s garden.
"Please just have a little look in your gardens for me. Dead or alive I’ll come and get him. And if someone has him, please if you have my baby he’s the most useless dog ever but he’s my useless dog.
Expressing his gratitude to everyone who got in touch, he said: ”From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank you all for such an amazing response to help get our boy home.
"If we had time to reply to each and every comment/message/text we’ve had we would."
He added: "We’ve always tried to do right by people in this shop helping charities, local families and realising that as part of a community we had a duty to do this and seeing that returned to us times a million when we are in need has been overwhelming.
"I’m a realist so I realise that today is the last day I’m likely to find Barney alive whether he’s outside or someone’s took him in with the intention of handing him in Monday morning.
"But either way dead or alive I won’t stop searching."
