The Royal Family put on a united front yesterday as they rose above the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry book drama to publicly wish the duchess a happy 39th birthday.

The Queen led the birthday wishes, followed by Kate Middleton and Prince William before Prince Charles and Camilla swiftly shared their own.

But there may be more than meets the eye to the sweet social media messages, according to a royal expert.

Ingrid Seward, Editor-in-Chief of Majesty magazine, believes the greetings suggest the Queen and other senior royals "are aware of how sensitive Meghan is".

She also believes it shows how "sassy" Kate is able to rise above the drama despite an alleged feud with Meghan, as well as suggestions William and Harry are barely on speaking terms.

The Queen's message to Meghan

"She is a sassy lady and would not consider allowing anyone, let alone Meghan’s many followers, to take a swipe at her," Seward said in The Sun of Kate.

It comes as excerpts released from biography Finding Freedom, published next week, paint an uncomfortable picture of how Meghan and Harry were supposedly treated behind the palace walls.

But yesterday at 8.30am - 12.30am in LA where Meghan is living with Harry and son Archie Harrison - her Majesty's team shared a snap of her and the Duchess of Sussex smiling together at a joint event in 2018 in Chester.

Kate Middleton and Prince William also joined in with the birthday wishes

The picture was shared on the official Royal Family social media accounts with a message that said: "Wishing the Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday!"

Minutes later, Kate and William followed suit and posted on their Kensington Royal Instagram account: "Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today!"

Seward believes the public birthday messages shows the royals think Meghan is "sensitive"

The post, which showed a beaming Meghan holding hands with a young schoolgirl, also included a birthday cake emoji and a balloon emoji.

And Charles and Camilla posted on their Clarence House social media accounts: "Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!"

Seward wrote: "I am sure Meghan’s first reaction will be 'what a nice gesture', then later she might consider it just part of the royal machine she and Harry hate so much.

"We will probably never know but I hope it’s just the former."
