Relations between the Cambridges and the Sussexes may reportedly be frosty now, but it all began so promisingly.

In new book Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand tell a touching story of Meghan Markle ’s attempt to get her relationship with her sister-in-law off to a good start.

When you’re buying a present for people who have literally everything, it’s hard to know where to start.

Although royal expert Robert Jobson, royal expert and author, says that “touchingly for people who have everything, the royals tend to buy each other jokey things,” Kate Middleton confessed that she struggled to find a suitable gift for Her Majesty The Queen ahead of their first Christmas together at Sandringham.

Meghan doubtless agonised for quite some time when she picked out a birthday present for Prince William ’s wife.

At which point Meghan finished her future husband’s sentence for him, adding: "she's been wonderful".

"Amazing, as has William as well," echoed Harry.

Meghan continued: "His family has been so welcoming.

“The family has been great and over the past year and a half we've just had a really nice time getting to know them and progressively helping me feel a part of not just the institution but also part of the family, which has been really special."
