A mum-of-four has died after being run over by a car on her way home from a shopping trip with her daughter, 3.
The incident took place around 6.30pm last night close to the junction of Green Lane Road and Tithe Street in North Evington, Leicestershire.
The 27-year-old mum died of her injuries while her daughter was also injured but survived the accident.
Leicestershire Police said four vehicles were involved - two of which were not moving at the time.
They also said that one of the drivers, behind the wheel of a white Seat Leon was located shortly after fleeing the scene.
A 20-year-old man from Leeds has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and has been released pending further investigation by the police.
Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Channelle from the serious collision investigation unit said: “Our inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing, however we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident and hasn’t yet spoken with officers.
“Also, if you have video recording equipment in your vehicles can you please check the footage and contact us if you captured any part of the incident.”
In a statement, Leicestershire Police said: "The collision was reported at 6.35pm in Tithe Street and involved four cars and two pedestrians. Two of the cars were stationery at the time.
"One of the pedestrians, a woman, sustained serious injuries and pronounced deceased a short time later.
"The second pedestrian, a three-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham."
