Reeva Steenkamp had only been dating Oscar Pistorius for a matter of months before the former Paralympian murdered her.

But chilling text messages sent in the weeks before her death revealed that she was scared of her new boyfriend.

Dubbed the Blade Runner because of his carbon-fiber prosthetic legs, Pistorius rose to international fame when he competed in the London Olympics in 2012.

Six months later, the 26-year-old shot and killed his girlfriend who was cowering in the bathroom in his South Africa flat.

After a sensational trial and numerous appeals, he was found guilty of murder and is currently serving a 15 year sentence in prison.

Reeva had only been dating the athlete for a few months, having met him in November 2012.

Pistorius admitted at his trial that he was “besotted” by her, and said he was more into the relationship than she was.

In fact, in the weeks prior to her death, messages sent by Reeva revealed how his jealous tantrums frightened her.

In one conversation, three weeks before she was shot dead, she wrote: “I'm scared of you sometimes and how you snap at me and of how you will react to me.”

Mobile phone expert Francis Moller obtained 35,000 pages of messages from Steenkamp’s phone detailing an abusive, volatile relationship.

In another message, she told Pistorius: “We are living in a double-standard relationship. Every five seconds I hear about how you dated another chick. You really have dated a lot of people yet you get upset if I mention one funny story with a long-term boyfriend.

“You make me happy 90% of the time and I think we are amazing together … but I am not some other bitch … trying to kill your vibe … I'm the girl who fell in love with you but I'm also the girl who gets side-stepped when you are in a shit mood … I get snapped at and told my accent and voices are annoying.”

At Pistorius dramatic trial, where he claimed he mistook his girlfriend for an intruder so open fired, the text messages were read out.

It was said that the majority were of a normal relationship, but it appears that Pistorius temper was apparent in the lead up to Steenkamp’s death.

The disgraced Olympian is said to now be unrecognisable as he spends his days behind bars.

According to reports, he has grown a beard and stinks of cigarettes, and has said he may never run again.

The double amputee had become the first Paralympian to compete against able-bodied runners at the London games in 2012.
