Three men found dead at an isolated farmhouse in Co Cork Ireland have been named locally as a dad and his two sons.

The bodies of brothers Diarmiud and Mark O'Sullivan and their father Tadgh were discovered at an isolated farmhouse near Assolas, Kanturk.

Gardai (Irish Police) found the trio shortly after 6.30am on Monday 26 October after a woman inside the house raised the alarm.

Superintendent Adrian Gamble said the woman did not have a phone and ran to the nearest neighbour.

Police then swarmed the farmhouse and attempted to make contact with anyone inside before entering, the Irish Mirror reports.

Shortly before 1pm, the body of a man, in his 20s, who had only just returned to the family home, was found in his bedroom.

Later, the body of another man in his 20s and a man in his late 50s were discovered up to half a kilometre away in a field.

Gardai have said they're not looking for anyone in connection with the incident at this time but urged anyone with information to come forward.

Police found two rifles and a shotgun at the scene, which were legally held firearms, Superintendent Gamble told press.

He also said the State Pathologist is at the scene and the bodies will undergo a full post-mortem investigation shortly.

Initial indications are that all three men died of gunshot wounds.

A Garda Síochána spokesmansaid: "A family liaison officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established in Kanturk.

"An Garda Síochána is not looking for any other persons in connection with this incident at this time.

"An Garda Síochána is appealing to any person who may have any information which may assist in the investigation of the incidents which occurred this morning to contact investigating Garda at Mallow Garda Station 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
