Britain is poised for one final heatwave with temperatures forecast to reach up to 25C next week.
The UK has endured a miserable start to September with heavy rain, thunder and winds of over 50mph.
But the Met Office has forecast some heat as we move towards Autumn, although rain and wind are likely.
The weather agency says a Tropical Maritime air will "drawn across the UK".
A spokesperson said: "It is likely to turn warm in the south-east of England where temperatures will rise into the low 20Cs, perhaps mid-20Cs in one or two spots.
"At present, this is not expected to fit the criteria for a heatwave, however, as this requires temperatures of 27C or higher in the south-east for at least three consecutive days."
This weekend, there will be a mix of sunshine and showers with temperatures to drop overnight.
BBC forecaster Darren Bett said: "We've got more cloud spilling up from the southwest, coming eastwards into England and Wales and it may well bring some drizzly rain into the southwest of England and the West Country."
Showers are expected on Saturday, particularly in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
On Sunday, lighter winds but showers will make their way into England and Wales.
Mr Brett continued: "Some of these showers could be rather heavy as well. It'll depress the temperatures, of course."
The Met Office's long range weather report – beginning on Tuesday – says: "Likely to see mostly settled conditions from the west through the early part of next week with sunny spells, whilst a few showers may be seen mainly in the north.
"Temperatures generally near normal throughout the period, perhaps just above normal for a time when the rain moves in midweek."
