There are concerns that pupils of murdered French school teacher Samuel Paty may have seen his decapitated body in a vile photograph his killer shared online.
The 47-year-old teacher was killed with a butcher knife in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine at around 5pm on Friday at the hands of a 18-year-old Chechen-Russian, named as Abdoulakh Anzorov.
The violent murder has been branded a terrorist incident by authorities in France, and the attacker is believed to have acted after the teacher allegedly showed his class an image of the Prophet Mohammed.
In Islamic beliefs, it is not possible to view images of the prophet, as this is considering to lead to idolatry.
It is believed Mr Paty showed his class a naked drawing of the Prophet Mohammed in a class about freedom of expression – and gave any Muslim student permission to leave the room before revealing the image.
Authorities believe this was the motive for Anzorov to hunt down the teacher and kill him in an act of terrorism.
The Telegraph reports he tweeted an image of Mr Paty’s severed head along with the message: “From Abdullah, the servant of Allah, to Macron, the leader of the infidels, I executed one of your hell dogs who dared to belittle Muhammad.”
And there are now concerns over how many children saw the image online.
One parent told The Sunday Telegraph: "My daughter has access to so many concerning websites.
"She saw the images of the body online, and many of the kids did too. That's what worries me most."
Attacker Anzorov was shot dead by police who responded to the murder on Friday.
He had not been known to intelligence services, but had been granted a 10-year residency permit in France as a refugee in March.
The murder of Mr Paty comes five years since staff art French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo were murdered by two Islamic extremists who forced their way in to the offices in January 2015.
They attacked in response to the satirical magazine printing an image of the Prophet Mohammed.
The terrorists killed 12 members of staff and sparked outrage and condemnation across the western world.
The murder of Mr Paty comes after two people were injured in a knife attack outside the former offices of Charlie Hebdo in Paris last month.
