Chilling sounds of gunfire have filmed outside the mall near where a mass shooter has killed 17 people and allegedly taken hostages in Thailand.
In the video, filmed at the scene from a mobile phone, people can be seen fleeing for their lives in chaotic scenes sparked when a rogue soldier – identified in local media as Jakrapanth Thomma – began shooting at innocent civilians at Terminal 21 shopping centre in Korat this afternoon.
Numerous shots can be heard being fired and people in the mall's car park dive behind cars for shelter amid the panic.
The gunman, who is reported to be aged 32, live-streamed his sickening attack on Facebook, posting shortly before the massacre: “Time to get excited,” according to BBC Thailand.
Sickeningly, he later moaned in a video that he was exhausted from killing his victims, telling the camera: "I’m tired now. I can’t move my finger anymore."
Thomma is reportedly still at large on the fourth floor of the mall and has taken 16 people hostage.
Officials have blocked the surrounding roads and told people to stay away from the area.
He is said to have killed 17 people, with the victims including a woman in her sixties, a police officer, and a young male university student, local media reports.
Major General Jiraphop Phuridet, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, said that he was leading Hanuman special operations forces to deal with the gunman.
There are orders to kill him on sight, local media reports.
