A married couple decided it was time to jazz things up in their relationship, so they invited another woman into their world.

Stephanie Alicea, 31, and her 30-year-old husband Hector began dating as teenagers in 2008 before tying the knot two years later.

Together, the loved-up pair, from Florida, US, have two daughters; a 12-year-old and a five-year-old.

But things started to change in 2020, when Stephanie and Hector decided to explore polyamory.

They began looking for another woman to join their relationship, which is when Carissa Barclay, 30, joined the equation.

Now 10 years into their marriage, Stephanie and Hector are in a polyamorous relationship with Carissa.

After meeting on Facebook, the trio linked up at Starbucks and knew instantly that there was chemistry there.

The trio fell deeply in love and Carissa, along with her three kids from a previous marriage, moved in.

And despite their unethical set up, the triad insist their romance is not about the sex.

Hector said: "We want people to understand that our relationship is not like the depictions of polyamory in the media.

"This isn't about sex – we aren't swingers although there's nothing wrong with that."

The trio have had mixed responses from their families with Hector's mum unhappy with her son's untraditional relationship.

Stephanie has even had to cut ties with some of her extended family who disagree with the triad's polyamory.

While their kids have adapted to the change, the married couple's eldest child found it hard to adjust at first.

And when the three are out, they often receive negativity from trolls who have also responded to pictures of them kissing.

But that hasn't fazed Stephanie, Hector and Carissa.

Carissa detailed: "Polyamory to us is having the capacity to love more than one person in an intimate and very real way.

"We are all equal partners, equal lovers and have fidelity within the triad.

"When we're all out together, people look at us with confusion and curiosity mixed with a little amusement.

"We've had a few vomit emojis on posts of me and Steph kissing which has been disappointing but most have been supportive."

And fortunately, the trio have a good system when either one of them get jealous.

Hector concluded: "I think we are all pretty good about talking about our feelings when they arise including jealousy.

"We aren't immune to it, we just work through it.

"Great communication is vital in a throuple relationship.

"We are a closed triad meaning we are not seeking additional partners and not having relationships outside of the triad.

"Our relationship is real, it's valid, and it's our normal."
