A mum claimed she was fired from her job because she couldn’t keep her young children quiet while working from home.

Dris Wallace, a mummy blogger and account executive, started working from home in mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis.

She has been taking care of her daughter Dani, four, and one-year-old son Dylan, while helping her boss with their existing clients.

With the nature of her job, the mum-of-one, from California, US, has been required to take a number of business calls during the day.

The parent said she “worked tirelessly” to meet her deadlines but her boss was frustrated that he could hear her kids during their calls.

Dris, who is known as Modern Cali Mom, wrote an essay about the alleged firing which was published by ScaryMommy.com.

She said: “The first week of working from home started off very stressful with multiple calls, emails and unrealistic expectations.

“The pressure from my boss was creating so much stress. The kids were always interrupting and the baby wanted to nurse all the time.

“They constantly had to wait for me to finish getting something done so I could tend to their needs. My heart broke.”

She even tried to change their nap time so it doesn’t affect work

She continued: “He instructed me that on business calls with clients he did not want to hear the kids in the background.

“He stated over and over that it was not professional to hear the kids in the background on client calls and that I had to figure out how to keep them quiet.”

Dris explained that it became an ongoing issue and in an effort to calm her boss, she even pushed her son’s nap-time into the early afternoon.

The mum added: “I set the expectation with my boss that I would put him down for a nap and that I could be on client calls from 1pm to 4pm with minimal background noise, hoping my baby wouldn’t wake up in the middle of our calls. That was my only solution. The stress and anxiety that my boss created for me was through the roof.”

But Dris said her boss ignored her schedule and arranged calls at lunchtime – when both of her kids were “hungry and impatient”.

She insisted she was still able to meet her deadlines and perform well, claiming that she never once received any complaints from other clients.

Then after more than two months of working from home, Dris said his frustration started to escalate in May when he told her she needed to “take care of [her] kid situation”.

When she asked what he meant by it, explaining she can’t just lock her kids in a room, he told her to “figure it out”.

Dris was left distraught after the company’s decision

Dris was eventually assigned to do time management training and was once again told they were “tired” of accommodating her.

When she set up a call with HR earlier last month, she was told they “should part aways” instead of finding a solution.

The mum claimed that the company told her “they were experiencing a reduced revenue due to coronavirus”.

She said she feels “betrayed” after working tirelessly for the company while taking care of her children at home.
