Gerwyn Price's World Darts dream is still alive. Just about.

The PDC World Championships' second favourite was handed a giant fright by rank outsider William O'Connor in their second round clash - and profited from an inexplicable counting error by his opponent.

After fighting back from two sets to one down, Price trailed the deciding set 2-1 before holding his throw to take the match into a tie-break situation.

The Irishman then made a bizarre error. Having left himself four to finish and with the TV cameras zooming in on the Double 2 at the bottom of the board, O'Connor took aim at Double One at the top of the board. Twice.

He didn't even realise the error until he was informed afterwards.

"Yeah? I don't know," he said. "Maybe I thought I saw two on the board. I don't know."

Price made the most of his reprieve taking out 75 for a crucial break before serving out with a clinical 13-darter.

Despite the scare Price remains second favourite to win the Championship with thepools.com, behind hot favourite Michael van Gerwen.
