Ian Wright told Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang he has “legendary status” at Arsenal after bombarding the striker’s new contract announcement on Instagram live.

Aubameyang, 31, has finally put pen to paper on an extension at the Emirates, with Arsenal confirming on Tuesday afternoon that their star striker will be staying for another three years.

Mikel Arteta was determined to tie the Gabon international, who scored four goals in their FA Cup semi-final and final victories over Manchester City and Chelsea last season, down to a new deal with just 10 months remaining on his last one.

Now Arteta has finally got his man, ending speculation that he could leave to join Real Madrid or Barcelona in the near future.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has finally put pen to paper on a new Arsenal contract

Arsenal chose to announce Aubameyang’s new contract on Instagram live, first giving fans a tour of the Emirates before putting him in front of the camera.

The forward went on to tell supporters he was delighted to ‘Sign Da Ting’.

And Wright soon joined Aubameyang on the Instagram live session to label him a Gunners legend.

The Gabon international confirmed he will be staying for another three years on Instagram live

“Oh my god I love you man,” he said.

“Can I just say at a time when we need you most, when others have left, you have legendary status.”

Wright met up with Aubameyang’s dad at the Emirates on Sunday, having previously joked that he would not leave until his son signed a contract extension.

Ian Wright joined the session to brand Aubameyang a Gunners legend

“I’m going to go see Papa Aubameyang tomorrow,” the Arsenal icon said on Match of the Day.

“They have to sign, simple as that, I’m not going to leave. [I’ll take the contract to him personally] if I have to!”

Fortunately, Wright did not have to force Aubameyang to extend his stay at the club - and he couldn’t be happier after doing so.
