Arsenal fans seem to approve of Alexandre Lacazette's new role in the No 10 position for the Gunners after his showing against Rapid Vienna.

The Frenchman, usually deployed as a striker, was used in the deeper role behind Eddie Nketiah this evening, as he was earlier this month.

Arsenal fans may have been unconvinced by Mikel Arteta's decision before kick-off.

But after a first-half masterclass from Lacazette, which included him scoring a long-range half volley, supporters on social media had changed their tune about the 29-year-old.

"Lacazette in this #10 role I’m loving it," one supporter tweeted.

"Give me Lacazette #10 in the North London Derby, he always turns up in that sort of game and he’s more creative than the rest of our team," one wrote.

"Lacazette might actually be our No. 10 going forward," said a third.

"I like Lacazette in no. 10 role. He’s doing a way better job that Willian," noted one.

"Lacazette playing as a 10 might be a vibe," a fifth added.

As mentioned, Lacazette was deployed in the role formerly occupied by Mesut Ozil earlier this month.

But the experiment hasn't been paying off as Arteta's side have struggled in the Premier League.

Speaking this week, the Spaniard explained why he has opted to play Lacazette in the new role.

“We wanted to play our team so we had two strikers," he said.

Alexandre Lacazette helped Arsenal lay down a marker

"A way to do it with the qualities of Eddie and Laca was to drop Laca a little bit [deeper] in some situations.

"It’s something he’s very comfortable doing, while Eddie’s more of a pure No 9.

"It’s something we can use as well in the present and the future.”

Lacazette netted Arsenal's first goal of the evening, before Pablo Mari headed home from a corner.

Eddie Nketiah notched the third on the stroke of half-time.
