Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes says he scored one of the “most important goals” of his life after his wife gave birth to a baby.

The attacking-midfielder had an evening to remember as he played all 90 minutes to help Portugal hammer Croatia 4-1, before dashing off to hospital to be at his wife’s side as she gave birth.

Ana delivered a baby boy at around 12:30am on Sunday morning, just four hours after Portugal’s win at the Estadio do Dragao.

It wasn’t plain sailing for the United ace either on his journey to the hospital, as Fernandes he revealed an anti-doping test delayed his exit from the stadium.

Revealing his and Ana’s delight at their second child, after three-year-old Matilde, Fernandes wrote about his “second most important goal” in an Instagram post.

Alongside a snap of Ana, the baby and himself, he put: “September 6, 2020, when many thought that at the end of the national team's game that Bruno Fernandes had not scored a goal they were wrong!

“Today, 38 weeks and 6 days ago, I scored one of the most important goals of my life and had to wait a distance of almost 9 months, anxious to see the ball hit the back of the net.

“When the game was over many of you said "you didn't score a goal", but you were wrong because despite the final whistle, one of the two best shots I ever took in my career was about to go in, but not without the delegate calling me for anti-doping right after the game.

In 2017, Ana gave birth to the couple's first child, a daughter called Matilde
