Chelsea could be a huge threat to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the battle for the Premier League.

Frank Lampard has a year under his belt at Stamford Bridge where he finished fourth and came runners-up in the FA Cup.

With a transfer ban on the club, the former Derby boss incorporated a number of youngsters - including Mason Mount, Reece James and Tammy Abraham.

But after that punishment expired, the Blues boss has been making up for lost time.

This summer, Lampard splashed out on more than £200m on players.

His sole intention is to bridge the huge gap between Chelsea and the Premier League's 'top two' Liverpool and City.

They have been battling for the league title over the past few seasons, while Chelsea's last triumph came in 2017.

Lampard has been tasked with winning silverware but the first few games of the campaign have proved inconsistent.

As well as getting his new crop of players to gel, several have been missing through injury.

But his strongest XI when fit and firing would strike fear into many teams, with the Stamford Bridge coach improving every department of his squad.

In goal, Edouard Mendy has been brought in the compete with the hapless Kepa Arrizabalaga - with clean sheets proving hard to come by under Lampard.

As a result, three defenders were brought in - Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr, though the latter has been loaned out to Porto.

Kai Havertz has been signed to bring in more creativity, as has Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in an early deal concluded before the transfer window had even opened.

And Timo Werner has been brought in from RB Leipzig to supply the goals, though he can also operate on the wings.

But whether or not the Chelsea legend can strike upon a winning formula remains to be seen.
