Frank Lampard has sent a message to Callum Hudson-Odoi over his Chelsea future.

The England international has failed to impress since a transfer to Bayern Munich was rejected by the club last season, but they have reignited their interest with just days of the transfer window remaining.

The Guardian reported this week that the 19-year-old winger could be off to Germany on an initial loan, but that appears to have been ended by his start against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Lampard is likely to have used the selection to show the youngster his important to the squad, despite the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz and the impressive form of Christian Pulisic last season.

Lampard said of the player after the recent win over Barnsley: “I think he did well.

“Not easy with not so many minutes, he is the same as some others in the same boat at the moment.

“I thought at parts he looked fresh and sharp.

“We talk about work ethic, which he showed really well in terms of getting the ball back for us, recovery runs, all the things which must be absolutely standard in his game.”

One postive of the recent postponement of Euro 2020 is that Hudson-Odoi has been given his chance to prove his ability to England manager Gareth Southgate before next summer.

He said last month: “For me it is an opportunity to show again and keep pushing myself to the max to hopefully have an opportunity to go to the Euros.

“The Euros is a massive thing and I have big belief in myself and hopefully I will be able to get into the team.

“I just want to make sure that I keep pushing myself every game and every minute and making sure that I keep trying to score goals and make assists and keep trying to help the team as much as possible to get what we want, which is a trophy at the end of the day.”
