West Ham assistant boss has outlined the club's stance on Declan Rice as Chelsea weigh up a swoop for the midfielder on transfer deadline day.

Chelsea have spent close to £250million this summer on the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell, as Frank Lampard bids to turn his side into Premier League title contenders.

But the Stamford Bridge have been expected to make one more move before the transfer window shuts, with Hammers midfielder Rice seen as the final piece of the jigsaw.

Chelsea boss Lampard is believed to view Rice as long-term solution for the defensive midfield position, with the 21-year-old's versatility a major plus as he can also cover at centre-half.

West Ham have slapped an £80m price tag on Rice, which the west Londoners have so far not coughed up.

Chelsea are weighing up a deadline day move for West Ham's Declan Rice

If Chelsea do make a late move for their former academy player, it would leave West Ham needing to bring in a last-ditch replacement.

But Hammers No2 Alan Irvine says there is no one on their radar - because he and manager David Moyes do not want to sell the England midfielder.

"We haven't been looking to replace him," said assistant manager Irvine.

"We have been looking for players but we've not been looking for a replacement for Declan because we don't have any intention of selling him.

Frank Lampard is believed to be a big admirer of Rice's versatility and defensive qualities

"Every player in the world has his price, it would certainly be an extremely difficult situation for us if anything was to happen.

"But without having all the information I still don't think that will happen."

It looks like Chelsea will have to lodge another mega-money bid if they are to tempt West Ham into selling Rice.

They may have to offload players in order to finance a last-minute move, with Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger among the players who could leave the club on deadline day.

Jorginho could also depart, with Arsenal keen on the midfielder - although the 28-year-old underlined his importance to the team with two penalties in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
