Tottenham outcast Dele Alli has vowed to “make improvements, not excuses” after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season.

Alli, 24, has only racked up 66 minutes of Premier League football this season, with his only start coming in Spurs’ opening 1-0 defeat at home to Everton.

The England star was hooked at half-time in that game and has only been trusted to start Europa League fixtures since, plunging his future in north London into serious doubt.

Reports suggest he could be allowed to leave Spurs on loan in the January transfer window, having been linked with moves to PSG and Real Madrid over the summer.

Nevertheless, Alli appears determined to buckle down and work his way back into Mourinho’s plans going by his latest post on Instagram.

Along with a picture that shows him working out, the outcasted star simply wrote: “Make improvements, not excuses”.

Alli has not even been named on the bench in Spurs’ last four league games amid rumours of a bust-up with Mourinho.

Alli has been frozen out at Spurs this season, making the majority of his appearances in the Europa League

His most recent outings came in their 1-0 Europa League defeat away at Royal Antwerp, in which he was taken off at the half-time interval once again.

He was then an unused substitute in their victory over Ludogorets a week later.

Mourinho recently insisted he feels “bad” about Alli’s lack of football, but admits it is part and parcel of managing a “big club”.

When asked about his omission, the Spurs boss said: “I feel very bad we did. I feel even sad every time I have to write a list of players selected for a game. It's not just about Dele.

“If the players understand that on Thursday we have another match and that some people that didn't play here, they are going to play on Thursday and vice-versa.
