Donny van de Beek has revealed how Timothy Fosu-Mensah convinced him to join Manchester United this summer.

The Netherlands international swapped life in Amsterdam for Lancashire after agreeing a five-year contract with the Red Devils.

He marks Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing this summer after he made a creative midfielder a priority.

The Red Devils have won the race for the midfielder, with Tottenham, Real Madrid and Barcelona all interested.

And Van de Beek has stated how Fosu-Mensah influenced his decision.

He said: “I don’t know anyone from the team so I am really, really looking forward to seeing them, to meet them and to play with them.

"The only one who I know is Timothy [Fosu-Mensah], I was playing with him in the Ajax youth team a long time ago.

"I have talked already with him and he said ‘when are you coming? You’ve waited too long to come!’

"He’s making jokes with me which is nice.”
