Everton are reportedly exploring moves for Sergio Romero and Paulo Gazzaniga, in a bid to provide Jordan Pickford with more competition.

The Everton and England number one has come under fire after making a number of errors so far this season and the Toffees currently have former Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and youngster Joao Virginia as their other options.

Pickford made another error at the weekend against Brighton, failing to hold on to an effort from Leandro Trossard and allowing Neal Maupay to score.

That latest error came after Pickford made two blunders against Fleetwood in their Carabao Cup win.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has had a difficult season
Everton want to sign a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Jordan Pickford, who has made a number of errors recently

Pickford has made 11 mistakes which have led directly to goals since 2017, more than any other goalkeeper in that time.

Asked about the England star after the game, Ancelotti remained tight-lipped, saying: "I think this is not the right place to talk about Jordan Pickford.

"If I have to say something to him when he comes back, I am going to talk to him.

Manchester United's Sergio Romero is an option Everton are targeting

"He did a mistake but nothing happened. We have three points more. This is the most important part."

However, Everton have made late moves to bring in some more competition for Pickford, contacting both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur about the availability of Romero and Gazzaniga.

They are hopeful of getting one over the line, with Everton hoping to agree a loan deal.

United and Spurs are only interested in a permanent departure, with both players slipping down the pecking order.

Romero and Gazzaniga are now third choice at their respective clubs after Dean Henderson returned to Old Trafford after a loan spell at Sheffield United and Joe Hart was brought to Spurs on a free transfer.

Romero is seething with United for making an exit difficult, with the Red Devils demanding £10m for the 33-year-old.
