Georginio Wijnaldum's agent is closing in on an agreement for his client to join Barcelona this summer.

The Netherlands international is Ronald Koeman's top target since arriving as Los Cules boss from Holland.

Liverpool have yet to agree a contract with the midfielder after talks that have lasted over three months.

Wijnaldum is entering the final year of his deal, which expires in the summer of 2021.

The Reds have always felt fairly confident that the 29-year-old would agree terms with them.

But that confidence is now waning and the possibility of a sale is now on the cards as they look to recoup some money rather than lose him for nothing.

Georginio Wijnaldum is yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool

According to Algemeen Dagblad, Wijnaldum's agent is close to an agreement with Barcelona on a deal.

Whether or not Liverpool accept an offer from the Nou Camp outfit remains to be seen.

But with a transfer raid on Bayern Munich planned for Thiago Alcantara, the Reds need to stump up funds.

Selling Wijnaldum could be the only solution to raising enough cash to sign the Spain international - who would cost £27m.

The Dutchman has made 187 appearances for the Anfield side since moving from Newcastle in 2016.

In that time, he has won the Champions League and Premier League after becoming a pivotal force in Jurgen Klopp's midfield.

Barcelona are keen on signing Wijnaldum

When asked about the rumours surrounding him, the midfielder was coy on his future.

“I thought you would say – important part of the Oranje," he replied when asked if he will become an important player at Barcelona.

“It’s a rumour, that is the only thing I can say about it.
