Mason Greenwood admits he would love to see Lionel Messi come to the Premier League - even if it meant having to face him.
The Argentine superstar is at war with Barcelona after telling them he wants to quit the Nou Camp.
Messi believes he can leave the Spanish giants on a free transfer, but club bosses insist there is a release clause in his contract worth more than £550m.
Messi has refused to train with his team-mates ahead of the new season and Manchester City want to take advantage of the situation by luring him to the Etihad to be reunited with Pep Guardiola.
This would make him a direct rival of Greenwood, who plays for neighbours Manchester United.
But Greenwood insists having Messi in English football would still be fantastic and he said: "Obviously it would be amazing to even come up against him.
"All young footballers know about Messi, so to be on the same pitch as him would be like a dream come true. Not just for me but for everyone really, because to have someone that high-profile come to the Premier League, it's obviously a big thing."
Greenwood has been celebrating his first call up to the England squad ahead of the Nations League group games with Iceland and Denmark.
His inclusion in Gareth Southgate's squad caps a remarkable and meteoric rise to stardom for the 18-year-old, who took last season by storm to establish himself as one of the most lethal young strikers in Europe.
But Greenwood admits he is taking it all in his stride and he added: "It's a dream come true. Playing for England and being selected for England is every young boy's dream.
"I'm privileged and honoured to be selected because it's a good group of lads and I'm happy to be here. When I got the call (off Southgate) I was at home with my dad. It's so good to get the call off him.
"It has happened quickly. You can be called in any time and I was called in for some Europa League games this season and I took my chance. I've just taken every game as it came and just been out there playing my football. And I’ve got a good group of lads out there helping me so it's all good.
"You've just got to be ready and focused at all times. Maybe I'll do that once the season finishes, look back. But the games come quick and it's 100 focus at all times."
