Harry Kane’s passing ability is “not far away” from that of Manchester City maestro Kevin de Bruyne, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Kane, 27, has made his name as a goalscorer since bursting onto the scene at Tottenham in 2014, registering 198 goals in 296 appearances for the north London outfit.

However, this season the England captain is also providing a creative spark for Jose Mourinho’s side, recording eight assists in nine games as well as 10 goals.

And Carragher believes Kane is rivalling De Bruyne, who is widely considered one of the best midfielders in world football, as the Premier League’s top pass master.

Harry Kane has registered eight assists in nine games for Tottenham this season

“When Harry Kane played that ball against West Ham, I said he is one of the best passers of the ball in the world,” the former Reds defender said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“You calm down and you think, ‘I’ve gone a bit big there’. But then I’ve thought about it.

Jamie Carragher believes Kane is rivalling Man City ace Kevin de Bruyne as the best passer in the Premier League

“Who is the best passer of the ball in the world. I’d possibly say Kevin de Bruyne.

“But in the Premier League, who would I want on the ball trying to put someone through after Kevin de Bruyne? It would be Harry Kane.

"So, if Kevin de Bruyne is the best, then Harry Kane probably isn’t far away, so maybe it wasn’t the biggest shout in the world.

“Kane has always had more to his game than just scoring goals.”

Kane’s passing success so far in the 2020/21 campaign has certainly impressed Mourinho, who has branded his star striker “more than a goalscorer”.

“This is a different player,” he told Sky Sports.

“He scores lots of goals but he is so good technically and so intelligent in his tactical knowledge that he can be so much more than a goalscorer.”

Kane is in the starting lineup for Spurs in their clash with Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday night, with Mourinho hoping to bounce back from last week’s 3-3 draw at home to West Ham.
