Paul Pogba will not be heading to the San Siro this summer as neither he or Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte are keen on the switch.
Manchester United’s record signing could still leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, with Pogba still favouring Real Madrid.
But he won’t be joining Inter as a swap deal involving Lautaro Martinez is not on the cards.
Striker Martinez is understood to have his heart set on a transfer to La Liga giants Barcelona.
And even the prosect of Pogba moving to Inter without Martinez going in the opposite direction is a no-go.
Manchester City are also poised to miss out on Argentine goalscorer Martinez.
He has a release clause worth £94m in his contract in Italy, and United do not wish to meet that figure.
Pogba remains their most expensive acquisition from Juventus in 2016 at £89m.
While United were preparing to offer Pogba in exchange for Martinez, it won’t lead to a deal.
Conte has been strengthening his squad this season and Inter are seriously challenging Juventus for the Serie A title.
He won’t want to lose Martinez moving forward, but the opportunity to join Barcelona is a tempting prospect.
With regards to Pogba, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems more willing to let the midfielder move on come the summer, especially as the club considered the Martinez exchange.
A return to Juventus or a move to Real looks the most likely outcome at this time.
United, meanwhile, need a top striker to arrive ahead of the 2020/21 season, with Odion Ighalo having filled a void until the end of the campaign on loan.
