Former Liverpool defender Steven Caulker has joked he will return to Anfield if he’s allowed to play up front.
Caulker was signed on loan from QPR in January 2016 amid a defensive crisis, though he made just three substitute appearances before playing the full 90 against West Ham in the FA Cup.
The Premier League winning Reds are again struggling at the back with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk out for the majority of the rest of the season due to knee injuries.
It has left Joel Matip as Jurgen Klopp’s only senior centre-back with many wondering if the Reds will now use the January transfer market.
And Caulker has taken to social media to offer his services to his former club, in a unique way.
In reply to a tweet about how Caulker was involved in more goals than any other centre-back in the Turkish Super Lig last season, the former Reds star hilariously wrote: “I’m only coming back if I’m playing up front!”
Gomez was injured on international duty this week while Van Dijk had to be taken off during the Merseyside derby last month.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had said: "The big question you're looking at now is, can Liverpool win the league without Van Dijk there?
“I think every team has three or four players in every title-winning team or a team who think they can win the title, and if one of those players is missing, no matter how good your manager is, no matter how big your squad is, you can't cover for them because they're outstanding.

"I think it blows the title race wide open, I really do. "I still felt at the start of this season Liverpool were the team to beat.
“I think with Van Dijk being out for what looks like the whole season now, I think it's going to be all on for Liverpool.
“I think Liverpool certainly have to go into the market in January, and not just because of Van Dijk's injury, but Liverpool were weak in that area anyway.”
