The Red Devils could not book a place in the Carabao Cup final as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat against their rivals.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw his side get well beaten by the cup holders, with John Stones and Fernandinho finding the net from set pieces in the second half.
His side did get chances, though, as they took 11 shots on Zack Steffen’s goal desire only having 39 per-cent possession.
But footage has emerged of Martial, who only has five goals from 19 appearances this season, failing to win a penalty with his diving efforts.
In the clip, there is nearly an hour on the clock at Old Trafford and United have been behind for 10 minutes.
The French forward picks up the ball outside the penalty box and decides to run at goal.
Taking the ball past Fernandinho, he sprints through the gap between the Brazilian and defender Ruben Dias.
Clipping both of them on his way through, Martial decides to take a tumble in the hopes of winning United their 12th penalty of the season.
But referee Martin Atkinson simply waves it away as City get a goal kick and another chance to attack.
This footage was soon shared on Reddit, where the United faithful vented their fury at the forward for his simulation.
“Should have taken a shot there,” one supporter said.
“Why does he want to run through a f***ing defensive wall, for f***s sake. Dive is a disgrace.”
Another commented: “Honestly, after the performance he put in, that is embarrassing.
“If I was Ole, I would have subbed him for doing it. Not good enough.”
While a third suggested a change was needed, with: “Tony is not what we need.”
And a fourth added: “I’d be fine with Martial leaving if we got a decent replacement.”
A fifth held nothing back, with: “Embarrassing - Tony does this way too much.”
With a sixth simply writing: “Pathetic.”
United’s loss means they have missed out on a final for the fourth time in four attempts - but Solskjaer has denied the club have a “psychological” problem in big games.
