Manchester United reportedly did not sign Thiago Alcantara back in 2013 due to David Moyes not knowing enough about the midfielder.
United are again linked with a move for the Bayern Munich star with Premier League rivals Liverpool also believed to be interested.
Though it’s not the first time that Thiago has been touted with a move to Old Trafford with the then-Barcelona star a Moyes target.
Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 but was sacked before the end of his first season.
His only summer transfer window as Red Devils boss was something of a disaster with Moyes failing to bring in a number of targets.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were believed to be high on his wanted list, though neither of the superstars signed.
Thiago was reportedly on the verge of a switch to Old Trafford but ESPN claim Moyes’ interest cooled because he didn’t know enough about the player.
That’s despite Thiago having been a Barcelona regular and having made his senior Spain international debut two years earlier.
Opening up on his transfer dealings while at United, Moyes previously said: “Toni Kroos would certainly be the one who if I’d got to Manchester United he’d have been winning.
“At that time we [Manchester United] were very much after Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas but I’ve got to say prior to that, at Everton, we were really close to a lot of good players.

“By the time we got to the end of the transfer window, we always thought we had a chance of getting Gareth Bale.
“We hoped we could talk him out of going to Real Madrid because it was already half done.
“We had offered more money, we tried to entice him. We did [have a helicopter ready] and we tried.”
