Manchester United are enquiring over a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, as they also consider launching a bid for Dayot Upamecano.
The RB Leipzig defender is a highly sought-after prospect after his stellar Bundesliga and European performances in recent seasons.
But United may struggle to persuade the German side to part with the 21-year-old, who recently signed a new contract with the club.
Instead, the Red Devils are said to have 'asked for information' on Skriniar, who has fallen down the pecking order at the San Siro.
However, Skriniar is said to have rejected interest from the north London outfit.
The player is said to feel 'lukewarm' about a move to Old Trafford as well, with an Inter stay his ideal scenario.
Tottenham were in pole position for the 25-year-old, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport.
This was due to Inter's interest in Tanguy Ndombele, a player who seemingly has no future in north London under Mourinho.
A deal would have worked for both parties due to the lack of finances involved - but Skriniar has put an end to any swap.
Speaking this week, Inter chief Piero Ausilio spoke out about Skriniar and his future.
“Skriniar is a player we have made the right investment for," he said.
"He has been with us for three years and has done very well.

"Recently, maybe, he played less but we will continue to count on him as there are no negotiations ongoing regarding him."
As for United's ongoing Upamecano chase, Leipzig are also playing hardball.
The club's official Twitter account subtly issued a hands off warning to United last week, tweeting a reminder that the defender signed a new contract earlier this year.
Reports suggest a bid of £58m could be enough for United, who continue to desire a partner for Harry Maguire.
