Robin van Persie has warned Donny van de Beek that expectations at Manchester United will be high despite his young age.
Van de Beek is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford from Ajax in the coming days and become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing of the summer.
Many Red Devils fans expect the Dutchman to slot straight into midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.
Though Van Persie, who shone in the Premier League for United and Arsenal, warned his Dutch compatriot that it’s not always easy to adjust to expectations.
“Donny van de Beek is 23 years old and that is a nice age to make a transfer to the Premier League,” he told De Telegraaf.
“I was a bit younger when I went to Arsenal, and in the locker room, I was considered a player for the future.
“Winning the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord meant nothing. The Premier League is a completely different world.
“Donny will be brought in as a major purchase from Manchester United, but he will discover that those other 22 players have also been brought in as a ‘major purchase’. One had an even bigger transfer than the other.
“It means that he has to stand there right away and he has to mentally adjust to that. Because Manchester United is in every way a beast of a club.”
Reports suggest that Van de Beek is likely to take the No 34 shirt should he join up with the Premier League giants.
His Dutch team-mate, and Liverpool star, Virgil van Dijk believes a move to Old Trafford is a good one for the midfielder.

"[The Van de Beek transfer] looks like it's going to happen indeed," said the Premier League winning defender.
"From my heart, I wish him the best. It's wonderful for him, it's a nice step for him to move to a great club as a Dutch player.
"Also the same for Nathan Ake, who moves to Manchester City. I'm glad for both of them.”
