Donny van de Beek has ended a two-year Twitter hiatus after joining Manchester United.
Van de Beek has chosen to wear the number 34 shirt as a tribute to his former teammate Abdelhak Nouri, who sadly collapsed during a friendly in 2017 before going into an induced coma.
The Netherlands midfielder has since ended his break from the social media platform Twitter, and dedicated his message to his former club rather than his new one.
He wrote: “After 13 years, I say goodbye to the club that played a huge part in my development.
“I thank everyone who made this move possible. Time has come for a new chapter, but Ajax and the fans will always have a special place in my heart. I will keep following you! Donny.”
His last post came way back in January of 2018 when he signed a new deal at the club, which was due to last until the summer of 2022.
United great and current Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar has since penned a classy letter to his former colleague, wishing him well at Old Trafford.
He wrote: “Dear Manchester United fans, I hope you’re doing well.
“It seems our paths have crossed again. One of ours is joining you this season. And like so many players before him, he’s been with us since he was just a little boy.
“Shortly after his debut, he became one of our best. Especially the last couple of years were amazing. From the Europa League final (no hard feelings) to our Champions League run and winning the Dutch championship.
“The team he was part of showed the world who we are and what Ajax stand for.

Solskjaer said of his newest addition: "Donny has all of the technical attributes needed to perform in this team and has the personality required to succeed at Manchester United.
"His ability to see space, time his movements and read the game will really complement the qualities that we have in midfield and his arrival really strengthens the depth of talent we have in that position."
