Donny van de Beek has been tipped to ask Ole Gunnar Solskjaer where his Manchester United future lies.

Van de Beek was signed by the Red Devils in the summer, making a move to Old Trafford from Ajax for a £40m fee.

But he’s been hardly used by Solskjaer, starting just two Premier League games and not even coming off the bench for the last three.

Much was expected of the 23-year-old this season, who came after an impressive spell in the Eredivisie.

And fellow Dutchman Ronald de Boer believes Van de Beek should seek clarity on his Old Trafford future amid his current treatment.

Donny van de Beek has only made two Premier League starts this season and he was once again benched against Wolves

De Boer told AD: “The European Championship is coming, he will undoubtedly want to be there.

“Maybe it would be good for him to discuss with the club exactly what they want with him.

“If the view on playing time does not improve, he may have to declare that he should be loaned or even sold.

“You have to be lucky every now and then. Of course it doesn’t look great now, but with a great performance it can suddenly change completely.

“We also don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Perhaps they have made certain agreements with his transfer, they will get him ready for next year this season. That always remains a bit of a guess.”

Solskjaer has said on his player: "Donny has played well when he's had the chance. I think we are too quick sometimes to jump on, 'Oh he's not playing, it's a failure'.

"But with Victor and Fred as examples, it takes a little bit of time and now they are massively important players in our squad, in our team, which will be the same with Donny.

"He has come in and he is in a midfield group there with quality, challenging with Bruno [Fernandes], Juan [Mata] and Jesse [Lingard]. I have loads of No 10s, loads of central midfielders with Paul [Pogba], Nemanja [Vidic], Scott [McTominay] and Fred, and Donny has done well when he has come in.

"He is always ready, he always works hard in training, he's positive and he will make differences in many games for us this season. He will grow more and more for next year."
