Mikel Arteta has opened up on his plan for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the Arsenal star helped his side win the FA Cup.

Aubameyang scored twice as the Gunners came from behind at Wembley to beat Chelsea and lift the FA Cup for a record 14th time.

Though the striker’s Arsenal future remains in doubt with him having just one year left on his current Emirates contract.

It has led to thoughts that he could depart this summer with European giants Barcelona and Inter Milan believed to be keen.

Though Arteta is counting on Aubameyang staying, and spoke about his plans for the future following the Gunners’ cup win.

Arteta said: ”He knows what I think about him. I want to build the squad around him. I think he wants to stay and it is just about getting the deal done.

"But I think these moments will help him to realise and believe that we are in the right path and he is a big part of that.

“He is loved by everybody at the club. Hopefully he can continue with us."

And when asked whether Aubameyang will extend his stay at the Emirates, Arteta was hopeful adding: ”I think he will, yes."

When asked after his match-winning heroics on his future, Aubameyang remained coy, telling BT Sport: “I’m really not thinking about this, I just want to enjoy this with the boys.”

Arteta added: “Everything is based on my conversations with him, how he sees his future, what I expect from him, the team I want to build around him and the conversations I have with the people that are very influential around him.

“We all respect him, we admire him. We know the players we have and we have to value him. If we reach all of those points I think we'll get an agreement.”
