Olivier Giroud claims he is not worried about the arrival of Timo Werner at Chelsea, insisting the two are not the same “profile”.

The Blues splashed out £53million for the German international from RB Leipzig earlier in the summer and big things are expected of him.

Giroud will now have to compete with the new boy, as well as other striker Tammy Abraham next season.

But the World Cup winner claims he is relishing the competition, in fact adding that Werner will only strengthen the morale at the club.

He told Telefoot : "I haven't spoken to (Frank) Lampard. One thing is certain: the competition will pull us all to the top.

“A great club should have different options in each position.

"We want to be in the race for the title and I'm here. I finished the season well and I proved to the manager that he can count on me.

"Werner is not the same profile as me, I hope to have some playing time."

Depending on the system that Frank Lampard opts to play next season, it is likely that Werner will be the first choice forward in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has already given a glimpse of what he can do after netting four minutes into his debut in a 1-1 friendly draw at Brighton.

However, Lampard could opt to position Werner out wide in a front three with either Giroud or Abraham through the middle.

Many thought that Giroud’s time at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end last season but the Frenchman proved his worth once again.

Indeed, after Abraham’s form dipped somewhat midway through the campaign it was the veteran forward who stepped in.

And he went on to score eight league goals in 13 games since being introduced back into the team in February.

The Blues kick off their Premier League campaign with another trip to Brighton on September 14.
