Arsenal chiefs have discussed the possibility of swapping two players in a bid to bring Thomas Partey to the club.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to boost his squad in the transfer window after landing the FA Cup to sneak into the Europa League next campaign.

But he must do on a shoestring budget with the coronavirus crisis hitting the Gunners particularly hard.

Arteta would love to sign Atletico Madrid star Partey after making a defensive midfielder a top priority.

But the Wanda Metropolitano outfit are demanding his full release clause - which stands at £45m, a number that is proving tricky for the north London outfit.

Arsenal have already confirmed the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes, which has set the Gunners back £27m.

Thomas Partey is Arsenal's top target

And according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the north London side have discussed the possbility of swapping Matteo Guendouzi and Alexandre Lacazette.

"For sure they spoke with Atletico Madrid," Romano told Lee Gunner on his YouTube channel.

"It was during the meeting they had for Thomas, the first time it was in July.

"They spoke about Matteo Guendouzi and they spoke also about Lacazette.

"But at the moment, Atletico Madrid was not going for Lacazette.

"We will have to wait a bit to see about this situation because it will also depend on what will happen to other clubs if Atletico Madrid will sell for example Diego Costa and what will happen with Luis Suarez."

Despite Partey being Arsenal's top target, they also have plans to bring in Lyon star Houssem Aouar.

Dani Ceballos also looks set to arrive on loan from Real Madrid for a second season.

However, matters might depend on one transfer being completed for others to fall into effect.

"I think in September we will have a domino effect about strikers," Romano added.

"With Lacazette, Luis Suarez, Edin Dzeko, Edinson Cavani who has agreements with Benfica.

"When we have the first one to move, we will have many others as well but I don't think Lacazette will play in Italy or in Spain."
