Paul Scholes admits he agrees with Roy Keane's recent assessment of Manchester United 's squad.

Former Red Devils skipper Keane launched a scathing attack on his old side following their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal this past weekend, lamenting a lack of leaders in the squad.

During an appearance on Sky Sports, the Irishman said: "I looked at [Marcus] Rashford closely today, who has had a lot of plaudits over the past few months and he's still a young man, but his body language was shocking, really shocking.

"He was shrugging his shoulders when things weren't going his way. You roll your sleeves up at Manchester United.

"(When) things aren't going your way, that's when you look at your leaders and characters."

Scholes, Keane's old partner in the heart of the United's midfield, was asked to give his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on BT Sport.

And, unsurprisingly, the 45-year-old agreed with his fellow United legend's assessment of the team.

Scholes does, however, believe under-fire Red Devils skipper Harry Maguire has showcased some leadership qualities.

"Anything Roy says I tend to agree with," Scholes said on Wednesday night.

"I think Harry is a good leader there's not many else in the squad, possibly Bruno Fernandes could be."

Although Scholes sees leadership qualities in Maguire, he also sees holes in his game.

"But I think the problem he's had is his one-one-one defending and Lindelof next to him," he continued. "I think that's why he needed so much protection.

"You look at United down the years and they always had two centre-halves who could deal with strikers. They didn't need protecting.

And that frees the midfield players up to worry about the attacking side of the game. Over the last few weeks, they just haven't had that."

Manchester United will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, travelling to Merseyside to take on Liverpool.
