Slaven Bilic was sent off by Mike Dean at half time as the West Brom exchanged words with the referee at Goodison Park.

Bilic’s side had gone ahead at Everton courtesy of Grady Diangana though goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez put the clash in the hosts’ favour.

Kieran Gibbs was then sent off for lashing out at James with Bilic protesting the incident at half time.

Though Dean was not having any of it, with Bilic having words and wanting VAR to check with James having initiated contact with Gibbs.

The Croat said to Dean: “Check the foul, check the foul for us and the red card. Next time kills us.”

Dean promptly shows Bilic the red card with managers able to be dismissed from the dug out with the official saying: “Go away, away.”

Though it doesn’t stop Bilic’s protests as he again says: “Next time kills us, you can also kill us.”

Dean reiterates his instructions to leave while also talking to another member of West Brom’s coaching team.

The referee added “Away, you go away, he [Bilic] has already been sent off.”

And the West Brom boss, who guided the Baggies back to the Prem last season, wanted Dean to explain more, adding: “So come talk to me, come talk to me.”

Few could argue with Gibbs’ sending off with the former Arsenal star putting a hand in James’s face.

Martin Keown, on BT Sport commentary, said: “You look at the reaction of the player, he’s not arguing.

“It’s hand to face, and you simply can’t do that. It is stupid and I don’t think there’s much contact.

“If you are VAR and Mike Dean has seen it live and he’s happy, then trust the referee.

“It’s so out of character for Kieran Gibbs to react to anything. I’m so surprised by that.”
