Paris St-Germain would have already won the Champions League if not for Unai Emery’s two-year stint as manager, according to Thiago Silva’s agent.

Silva, 35, left PSG after their 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final last month, having failed to agree a new contract with the French champions.

Kingsley Coman’s second-half strike in Portugal ensured there was not a fairytale ending for the Brazilian, who has since sealed a move to Chelsea.

Yet according to his agent, PSG would have clinched a first Champions League by now if Emery hadn’t spent two years in charge at the club.

Emery, who was sacked by Arsenal in November of last year, was appointed manager at the Parc des Princes after winning three Europa League titles with Sevilla.

The Spaniard secured a domestic treble with PSG in 2018, but his failure to make it past the last-16 stage of the Champions League was seen as a major failure by club officials, who chose not to renew his contract.

And Paulo Tonietto, who represents Silva, insists he was a “terrible coach” for the club.

“PSG lost two years the day they recruited him,” Tonietto told L’Equipe.

“His problem is that he has trouble managing the stars.

“In Paris, it was the players who solved the situation after Neymar and [Edinson] Cavani clashed on-field over a penalty.

But the Brazilian's agent believes PSG would have already won the competition if not for Emery's "terrible" management from 2016-2018

“When he went to Arsenal, the first player he got angry with was Mesut Ozil.

“He’s a good coach to play in the Europa League, not the Champions League. The suit was too big for him. He was a terrible coach for PSG.

“If there had been a coach of another calibre during these two years, PSG would have already won the Champions League.”

After failing to earn a new contract in Paris, the Spaniard moved to Arsenal in 2018 and was sacked a year-and-a-half later

After his disappointing spell in Paris, Emery was appointed Arsenal manager in 2018 and failed to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, while also suffering a 4-1 defeat against Chelsea in the Europa League final.

And amid a seven-game winless streak in the following campaign, he was dismissed by the Gunners in November and replaced by Mikel Arteta.
