Thiago Silva is destined to become a Chelsea player in the next few days after accepting a two-year contract offer from the Blues.

The Brazilian centre-back became a free agent following PSG's Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been on the hunt to add experience to his defence which conceded 54 Premier League goals last season.

Silva has played at the top level for over a decade since joining AC Milan in 2009, where he learned new defending techniques from Paolo Maldini and manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Silva turns 36 next month but is still in his prime

With his contract running down, the 35-year-old has had no shortage of potential suitors - despite turning 36 next month.

And according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it is FA Cup runners up Chelsea that have won the race for his signature.

He tweeted: "Thiago Silva to Chelsea, here we go! The Brazilian CB today has accepted Chelsea bid until June 2022.

"He’s gonna leave PSG and sign for next two years. No chances for Fiorentina. Deal to be completed on next days."

Thiago Silva will spend his next two seasons at Chelsea

Having failed to go out on a winning note, the 88-cap defender sent a message to the PSG fans.

"It was my last match in Paris," he wrote. "I'm sad. I apologize to the supporters. I thank all the fans for their love."

Silva, who spent eight years with PSG, will become Lampard's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

A £90m deal for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz is edging closer and Chelsea also have their sights on £50m Ben Chilwell.

Lampard is determined to improved on a defence that had the worst record in the top half and conceded 21 more goals than champions Liverpool.

But Chelsea may have to offload one of their four senior centre-halves in order to raise funds to sign Leicester star Chilwell.

Antonio Rudiger has been linked with a move to Anfield, while Fikayo Tomori has been linked with a loan move to Rennes.
