Thomas Partey has sent an emotional message to Atletico Madrid following his transfer deadline day move to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta landed the midfielder on Monday after the Gunners activated his £45million release clause.

Atletico chiefs were reportedly furious with Arsenal's decision to move so late in the transfer window, when it had appeared that a deal was beyond the Premier League club.

But Partey had only positive things to say about Atleti after signing a four-year deal at the Emirates worth in excess of £200,000-per-week.

The Ghana international has been with Los Rojiblancos since he was a teenager and has made 188 appearances for the La Liga club.

Thomas Partey thanked the 'wonderful fanbase' of Atletico Madrid

"Dear Atletico fans, today I only have words of gratitude for you," Partey posted on Instagram on Tuesday morning.

"For several years now, Atletico Madrid has been my home and this family will always be a part of me.

"I want to thank the club for the trust placed in me from day one, but above all, I want to thank you, this wonderful fanbase that accepted me from the first moment and one that never stops believing in both the good and the bad times.

"Atletico Madrid is not just a club, it is a family. Thank you."

While Partey left the Wanda Metropolitano for north London, Lucas Torreira went the opposite way, joining Atletico on loan.

However, the timing of Arsenal's move for Partey so late in the transfer window reportedly left the La Liga giants seething.

According to The Athletic, Atleti are furious and have no interest in any future dealings with the Gunners, even viewing the relationship as irreparable.

Arteta was a happy man, however.
