And a moment in stoppage time caught on the cameras shows how poor a game Werner had for Chelsea.
In the clip, there are three minutes of the 90 left at Stamford Bridge and the Blues have won a corner kick on the right wing.
Werner picks up the ball and looks to play it short for Mason Mount to put a cross in.
But the German miscues his right-footed pass, kicking the bottom of the corner flag as his team-mate has to run and collect the ball.
It sees the forward fall to his knees while watching the game unfold before him.
This footage earned more than 400,000 views within half an hour of being shared on Twitter, where viewers slated the 24-year-old for his gaffe.
“I can’t believe I’ve just seen Timo Werner getting fouled by the corner flag,” one said.
Another commented: “Nothing sums up Timo Werner’s time as a Chelsea player quite like what just happened to him when he took that corner.”
While a third made a brutal assessment, with “Timo Werner getting injured after hitting the corner flag is the biggest highlight of Chelsea’s play today.”
And a fourth added: “I laughed so hard at that Werner corner.”
A fifth took a swipe at the forward’s lack of attacking threat this season, with: “I’m coughing blood - Werner can’t even beat the corner flag.”
Even Gary Lineker got involved, writing on Twitter: :”When it just ain’t your day.”
Fans also laid into Lampard after joking that the manager had “leaked” Chelsea’s tactics before kick-off.
