Argentina team-mate Gonzalo Higuain said: “England? Over there defenders kick the s**t out of you and nothing gets given [by referees.

“They're built like wardrobes and they hit you. I suffered a lot in the English league. I did not manage to adapt in six months. It has nothing to do with the Spanish League.

“I don't know how it could impact Leo, but being a player of another level I don't think he would suffer, but it's a very complicated league.”

Keown’s Saliba warning

There seems to be hope from Arsenal fans that the arrival of William Saliba, who spent the season on loan at Saint-Etienne, will solve Mikel Arteta’s defensive worries.

Though Gunners legend Martin Keown has warned fans not to expect too much from the youngster.

He said: "It is one of those where I would have been happier if Arsenal had paid more money and brought him in straight at the start of last season.

"There have long-been questions over the Arsenal defence and Saliba was expensive, but he is also young and has not played that many professional games.

"It can't be expected that he will walk straight into Arsenal, right into the team and be on it from the off."

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers will now consider offers if their £45million valuation is met.

But Italian football expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Tuesday night that Barca want to keep the Frenchman as they attempt to turn around their fortunes.

He tweeted: “Barça president ruled out the chance of opening talks with Man United to Ousmane Démbélé: ‘He’ll stay."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Dean Henderson in disagreement

The future of Dean Henderson remains uncertain under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has had two impressive seasons on loan at Sheffield United and has since returned to Old Trafford ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

Although the Blades are keen to see him return, they are likely to be priced out of a permanent deal because Henderson has another two years on his contract with United.

Jurgen Klopp is in no rush to send Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster out on loan.

The 20-year-old scored 10 goals in 20 Championship appearances for Swansea during the second-half of the 2019/20 season - and has attracted the eyes of plenty of potential suitors ahead of the new campaign.

The Mirror have reported that the likes of Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Villa, Brighton and Burnley have all enquired over the forward, but nothing will be decided over the next few weeks of pre-season.

Villa hopes dashed

Dave Armitage with the latest on Aston Villa:

Aston Villa's hopes of landing a £22m deal for Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica look set to be dashed despite Dean Smith’s side staying in the Premier League.

Villa are understood to have met the German club's asking price but now have a job on convincing the 24-year-old to join them.

The Kosovan international is keen on a move to the Premier League but has Champions League football high on his wish-list.

That's a potential stumbling block about a move to Villa after they escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth on the very last day of the season.

Rashica is in Austria at the Germans' pre-season training camp but has been left out of friendlies against LASK and Eintracht Braunschweig for fear of him getting crocked.

Head coach Florian Kohfeldt said: "He will not play. The club don't want to risk Rashica suffering any injuries that could affect the transfer."

Koeman’s Coutinho comments

Ronald Koeman is expected to take over at Barcelona in the coming days, and his previous comments on Philippe Coutinho could hint at the Brazilian’s future.

Koeman previously stated that he believes Coutinho can be “useful” at Barcelona, despite him not making as big an impact as hoped.

Back in 2017, whilst in charge of Everton, Koeman was asked on his opinion of Coutinho with the star having been linked with a move to the Nou Camp at the time.

"He's a great player and I think he could be very useful to Barca," Koeman told El Mundo Deportivo.

"After all, it will depend on the circumstances of the transfer and his arrival.

"But he's a great player with a lot of qualities, without any doubt."

The Serie A giants are keen on the frontman and are believed to have offered cash plus Aaron Ramsey to the Premier League side.

Though Corriere dello Sport claim it’s been turned down with Wolves believing Jimenez is worth in the region of £90m.

The report adds that Juventus also offered Gonzalo Higuain as part of a separate deal in an attempt to get Jimenez, though that was also turned down.

West Brom blow

The latest West Brom transfer news from our Midlands reporter Dave Armitage:

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic is bracing himself for a double-transfer blow as he tries to strengthen his newly-promoted Premier League side.

Croation midfielder Filip Krovinovic may not return to The Hawthorns after his successful loan spell from Benfica.

Bilic says he'll do everything he can to get the 24-year-old but a change of head coach with the Portuguese club could change the situation.

Bruno Lage – who allowed Krovinovic to leave – has been replaced by Jorge Jesus.

Bilic said: “Krovinovic is a priority. I will do everything I can to get him to stay.

Bilic's pursuit of another target looks to have gone up in smoke with Lokomotiv Zagreb goalkeeper Ivo Grbic on the brink of signing for Atletico Madrid.

Ramsdale to Sheffield Utd

Bournemouth keeper Aaron Ramsdale will complete his £18.5m move to Sheffield United in the next 48 hours.

Suggestions that Aston Villa tried to hijack the deal look to be way off the mark leaving The Blades with a clear run at landing the 22-year-old.

Ramsdale is scheduled to join Chris Wilder's squad in pre-season training by the end of the week.

The 37-year-old managed 61 appearances for City after joining from Barcelona in 2016 and kept 20 clean sheets.

"Everybody at Manchester City would like to thank Claudio for his four years at the Club and wish him good fortune in his future endeavours,” a club statement read.

Arsenal chase Aouar

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Lyon starlet Houssem Aouar but it’s not just Mikel Arteta who has spotted his talent.

Back in 2018, Pep Guardiola waxed lyrical about the midfielder after his side went up against him in the Champions League.

Guardiola said: "Houssem Aouar is a very good player. He is incredible.

"We talk a lot about (Tanguy) Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He's always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.

"Lyon really has a very good team. There are young people full of quality and I think the team is in place tactically."

Juventus could cash in on Cristiano Ronaldo this summer as they no longer consider him ‘non-transferable’.

With Andrea Pirlo now at the helm and wholesale changes expected, Spanish publication Sport claim Juve could also show Ronaldo the door this summer if any potential suitors meet their £54million asking price.

The Spanish outlet claim Paris St-Germain are monitoring his situation in Turin and could make a move once their Champions League campaign has drawn to a close.

Everton target new right-back

Our Merseyside reporter Chris McKenna has the latest on Everton’s search for a new right-back:

Everton are set to swoop for Atletico Madrid full-back Santiago Arias.

The Toffees are keen to add a new face at right back after Djibril Sidibe's loan spell at the club ended.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti is a keen admirer of the Colombian defender.

But Everton will face stiff competition from Benfica and Napoli for his signature.

Arias, 28, is down the pecking order at Atletico behind England defender Kieran Trippier so is keen for a move this summer.

Everton do have captain Seamus Coleman at right back but Ancelotti wants another in the position competing for a starting place.
