Henderson accepts Van de Beek request

Manchester United new boy Donny van de Beek had goalkeeper Dean Henderson to thank for getting the number shirt that he wanted.

Van de Beek wore the No.6 shirt in Amsterdam but made it known that he would prefer to take the No.34 with the Red Devils.

This was in honour of his former Ajax teammate and close friend Abdelhak ‘Appie’ Nouri, who was left in a coma for three years after collapsing during a match.

Nouri wore the No.34 shirt for Ajax and Van de Beek made it clear he would like the same number at his new club.

Henderson, who previously held that number, kindly gave it up for the new signing shortly after the deal was confirmed and will be allocated a new number.

Liverpool and Man United join race for Sevilla centre-back

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly in the race to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos this summer.

The centre-back was a standout player for the La Liga side last season, helping them to Europa League glory and a top four finish.

And he is now being linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester City already having been credited with an interest.

But, according to Spanish publication Marca, via Sportswitness , Liverpool and United are also ‘in the mix’ to sign him.

Arsenal close in on Ceballos deal

Dani Ceballos has arrived in London ahead of a second loan spell with Arsenal this season.

The Spanish midfielder spent last season at the Emirates Stadium on a temporary deal but returned to Real Madrid after his Gunners contract expired after the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.

Yet the 24-year-old impressed Mikel Arteta during the second-half of the season and has done enough to earn another short-term stint in north London.

Arsenal 'offered’ West Ham’s Felipe Anderson

Arsenal are being linked with a shock move for West Ham's Felipe Anderson following speculation he has been offered to the Gunners on loan for a £5million fee.

The midfielder has fallen out of favour under David Moyes after a poor showing last season, where he scored just once and created only four assists.

The Gunners could be tempted into a cut-price deal for the former Lazio man, but some sort of agreement over is £140,000-a-week salary would have to be reached.

Chelsea target Mike Maignan unhappy at transfer negotiations

Chelsea have ended their interest in Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan with the Frenchman reportedly unhappy that a deal was not completed sooner.

Frank Lampard identified the 25-year-old as a potential transfer target but Lille wanted £32million for Maignan, more than the £22m that the Premier League side were willing to pay.

It is claimed that Maignan wanted the deal to go through and was left angry that a transfer was not coveted before he joined up with the France squad for this weekend's game against Sweden in the Nations League.

Josh King issues Man Utd come and get me plea

Josh King insists it would be “amazing” if Manchester United were still interested in signing him after his dream move was initially scuppered.

The Red Devils failed with a £20million for the Bournemouth forward in January before they signed Odion Ighalo on loan.

King was on United’s books as a teenager and has always insisted it his dream to play for the club.

The 28-year-old is keen to leave the relegated Cherries this summer and has issued a come and get me plea to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Arteta wants Felipe Anderson

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on West Ham star Felipe Anderson.

Anderson impressed in his first season with the Hammers before struggling in the recent campaign.

The 27-year-old would cost Arsenal around £45m with West Ham under no pressure to sell.

Josh King to Man Utd?

Bournemouth star Josh King wants to move to Manchester United having been linked with a return to Old Trafford in January.

The striker said: “I will not lie, because I really wanted to go there in January, but what happened, happened.

“I know why things happened. We’ll just have to wait and see. There is a lot that is open. I have a dream to play in the Champions League.

“Whether it will happen this season or in two years, I do not know. But I have a dream about it that all boys have.

“What if United are still interested? That would be amazing. I was at United for five years and I learned lot there.”

Kai Havertz clause

Chelsea are understood to have inserted a clause into the £90m Kai Havertz deal which involves them winning the Champions League.

The Blues are believed to be on the brink of signing Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Havertz as Frank Lampard continues to tinker with his squad.

Stamford Bridge director Marina Granovskaia has been negotiating with Leverkusen for weeks.

And she is understood to have finally reached an £89m agreement with the Bundesliga side, with talks concluding on Wednesday.

The initial fee is thought to be £72m, with a number of add-ons potentially taking it up closer to the £90m mark.

According to the Mirror, one of those will depend on whether he helps Chelsea to win the Champions League over the next five years.

Man Utd end Grealish pursuit

Manchester United have reportedly ended their interest in Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.

Grealish had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer though the Red Devils instead signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

And Sky Sports claim that United are no longer considering bringing him in this summer having signed Van de Beek.

Leeds eye different targets

Leeds United will reportedly turn to potential targets from Chelsea and Brentford after failing with their approach for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster.

Marcelo Bielsa is understood to be looking to sign another frontman this summer as he looks to ensure he has enough firepower up front for the Premier League.

Patrick Bamford led the line for Leeds last season, but has very little experience playing in the top flight.

The Whites have already broken their club record fee, splashing £27m for Spain international Rodrigo from Valencia.

And they are now eyeing up two other targets, having lost out on landing Liverpool young gun Brewster, according to Football Insider.

Football Insider claim that Leeds’ first choice target is Brentford striker Ollie Watkins.

Meanwhile, Chelsea cast off Michy Batshuayi is also reportedly on the radar if they cannot persuade Watkins to leave west London.

Kai Havertz battle

Chelsea new boy Kai Havertz could be set for a shirt number battle with Christian Pulisic when he arrives at Stamford Bridge.

German playmaker Havertz is expected to become the club’s record signing in the coming days.

One of the first decisions Havertz will have to make upon becoming a Blues player is to settle on a squad number.

The Germany international has worn No. 29 throughout his time in the Leverkusen first team, but previously wore No. 10 and 17 for the youth teams.

But with the No. 10 readily available at Stamford Bridge, it’s a very likely slot for Havertz to take.

However, American winger Pulisic will certainly have something to say, with the winger expected to nab it for the new season.

Man Utd Sancho latest

Manchester United are reportedly attempting to agree salary and fees of Jadon Sancho’s intermediaries as the Red Devils continue their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund star.

United have been continuously linked with a move for Sancho this summer despite Dortmund chief Michael Zorc insisting the Premier League side missed a deadline for any potential sale.

That’s not put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ed Woodward and Co off though.

The Daily Mail report that United are continuing their hunt for Sancho and will sort out the salary and fees of intermediaries before approaching Dortmund with an official bid.

Barca’s view on Van de Beek

Barcelona are reportedly ‘indifferent’ about Donny van de Beek joining Manchester United despite previously being strongly linked with the midfielder.

Van de Beek made the switch to Old Trafford from Ajax earlier this week despite Barcelona having been considered frontrunners in the race to sign as recent as last weekend.

The La Liga giants are determined to improve their midfield with new boss Ronald Koeman eager to put his mark on the squad.

Ivan Rakitic has left the Nou Camp while Arturo Vidal is also expected to depart this summer.

But Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona weren’t overly fussed about Van de Beek’s switch to Manchester United.

Torreira future

Lucas Torreira looks set to be the latest name out of the door at Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s clear-out gathers pace.

Torreira cost Arsenal £26m when they signed him from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018 and he still has three years left on his contract.

But the 24-year-old hardly featured towards the end of last season and is surplus to requirements as Arteta tries to reshape his squad.

Torreira recently admitted that his Emirates future was in doubt with AC Milan having previously been linked with a move.

“Today I need to think about my future very well,” he told Sport890 .

“I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously if I have to leave it will be for the best. We have to be calm and wait."

Baggies eye Batshuayi loan

West Brom are trying to negotiate a loan deal for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgian, 26, is currently behind Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

He has scored a total of 25 goals in 77 appearances for the Blues, including the strike that clinched the Premier League title for them away at West Brom in 2017.

And now Batshuayi could be set for a move to the Hawthorns this summer, with the Baggies in talks over a potential loan deal.

According to Manchester Evening News, United’s recruitment department are currently tracking the 23-year-old amid uncertainty over their current full-back situation.

Reguilon, who spent last season on loan at Sevilla, is behind Marcelo and Ferland Mendy in the pecking order at Madrid.

United decided not to sign a new left-back in November due to Brandon William’s rapid rise at Old Trafford, but concerns over Luke Shaw’s fitness mean they are now back in the market.

Dayot Upamecano rejected Man Utd

Manchester United failed in their pursuit to sign Dayot Upamecano before he made it big.

The 21-year-old’s Bundesliga form has alerted several top European clubs to his buy-out clause with his current contract set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The central defender joined RB Leipzig from their sister club Red Bull Salzburg in 2017, having been tempted to leave Valenciennes for another Red Bull connected club in Liefering two years previously.

It was reported by his agent at the time, Thierry Martinez, in 2019 that United came very close to signing him from Valenciennes back in his teenage years, but they dropped the ball when tasked with sorting his living arrangements.

"An intermediary met with us, but between the project she presented us and what was actually going to happen," said Martinez in an interview with So Foot last year, via Sky Sports.

"A flat was promised, but that changed to a host family with only six return trips for his parents."

Why Arsenal ended Donny van de Beek 'interest'

Arsenal ended their interest in Donny van de Beek before he signed for Manchester United.

The Gunners were one of several interested parties in the Netherlands international, who burst onto the scene by helping Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

The 23-year-old has moved to Old Trafford for an initial £34m with a further £4m in add-ons, and it seems as though Arsenal were priced out of a deal by their big-spending rivals following the recent pandemic.

Van de Beek’s agent Sjaak Swart has revealed all following the confirmation of the transfer, naming several clubs who had shown interest during his time at Ajax.

“Yes, they [Arsenal] really wanted him. But they just couldn’t get the money for a transfer. Even the biggest clubs struggle," Swart told Ajax Showtime.

Manchester United failed in their pursuit to sign Brescia star Sandro Tonali.

Tonali, who is AC Milan bound this summer, is said to have chosen to stay in Italy thanks to his love for his new city.

"I know that [Inter CEO] Beppe Marotta really wanted Tonali, and that [Inter head coach] Antonio Conte appreciated him, so I think his agent had agreed terms with Inter," Brescia owner Massimo Cellino told Top Calcio24.

"As soon as Milan showed real interest, he did not want to listen to any other options.

"I also have a historically good rapport with Milan and we reached an agreement with [Milan technical director] Paolo Maldini quite quickly."
