Ratchet & Clank is one of Sony PlayStation's best exclusives.
It might not have the plaudits that certain other exclusives garner, but you don't release 14 games over the course of 14 years if there's no fan base or clamour for more games.
Coupled with the immense success of the 2016 reboot, it would make sense that Insomniac Game's lovable Lombax will make a return at some stage.
Thankfully, we might not have to wait too much longer for that date to arrive, as rumours would suggest Sony PlayStation are preparing the platform favourite as a potential launch day exclusive.
Former IGN Senior Editor Colin Moriarty, now a host of Sacred Symbols, has been hinting at the possibility of Ratchet & Clank making a return for some time.
And in one of his latest podcast's Moriarty was quite forthright with his assertion that a new Ratchet & Clank was on the cards.
“I feel like that's going to be a launch game, the Ratchet & Clank game that's long been in development at Insomniac,” Moriarty told his listeners.New consoles launching with a kid-friendly platform game has been a staple of almost every new console launch.
In the case of the PS4, Sony attempted to give players a new hero in Knack, but the game failed to hit the mark.
However, with Ratchet & Clank, Sony would have a ready-made hero and a popular one to boot.
And with Insomniac now working full time under the Sony umbrella - following Sony Interactive Entertainment's acquisition of the company in August 2019- it would make sense if they had them working on bringing the character back for another round.
Following that buyout, then PlayStation boss Shawn Layden stated that there's still more to come from Ratchet & Clank in the future.
“We like what they’ve [Insomniac Games] been doing in the Spider-Man franchise and things like Ratchet & Clank are certainly vital series in the present and future,” Layden said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Sony hasn't announced much with regards to its launch plans just yet.
In fact earlier today the company admitted that the PS5 price isn't confirmed just yet.
However, it's believed the company could have a PlayStation 5 February announcement on the cards, which could be confirmed in the coming days having now shared their most recent financials with the world.
So if there is a possible Ratchet & Clank game coming at launch, we could learn more about it very soon.
Stay tuned for more details.
