A flight attendant has explained her top tips of things you must do when you first check into a hotel – something she knows a thing or two about.
Kat Kamalani, from Salt Lake City in Utah, US, made a viral TikTok video about how to check your room is hygienic and safe before you throw yourself onto the bed and catch a well-earned snooze.
The 30-year-old frequent flier took viewers on a tour of a Hilton hotel room and filmed herself giving it a thorough examination, showing fans how she makes sure it is up to scratch.
In the clip, Kat said: "Never say your room number out loud just in case there is anyone around and you don't want them knowing where you are staying."
Next, she enters the room and proceeds to do a quick sweep around.
"Check if there's anyone in your room – behind the curtains, under the bed," she advised.
For the sake of cleanliness, Kat says you ought to examine the corner of the mattress for bed bugs unless you want to be nibbled in the night – and potentially get your own belongings contaminated with eggs.
Kat then throws all the decorative cushions and top covers off the bed, claiming: "They never wash those".
Next, she puts her suitcase on the specially-designed rack which is normally left in the wardrobe or at the foot of the bed.
"Never put your bag on the bed – it's been through an airport and it's disgusting," she added.
The flight attendant also says you can use the ice bucket to keep food chilled if you don't have a mini-fridge in your room.
Since Kat uploaded the video, it has been watched more than 5 million times and received more than 1.2 million "likes" – with many people thanking her for the tips.
A hygiene-obsessed fan said: "No-one listens to me when I say don't put ur suitcase on the bed thank you for saying it."
"I was a housekeeper and can confirm that the decorative pillows and blankets only get washed during 'deep cleans' which is about every 4-6 months," commented another viewer.
But someone else called her "super paranoid" and indicated they thought the checklist was over the top.
