YouTube star Adam Beales is joining BBC stalwart show Blue Peter as its landmark 40th presenter, with his first show on Thursday, September 3.

The 20-year-old will join the presenter roster of Lindsey Russell, Richie Driss, Mwaka Mudenda and, of course, Henry the dog.

The internet sensation will already be known to CBBC fans as he is a regular face on The Dog Ate My Homework.

With almost three million subscribers on YouTube, Adam was considering studying at Oxford or Cambridge after leaving school with 11 GCSEs at A* – and as head boy.

However his channel blew up and he went down the YouTuber route instead, often featuring his mum, dad and younger brother Callum, 11, in his videos.

Adam is best known for sharing pranks, challenges, DIY crafts and other life hacks to his channel, so his skills will certainly come in handy with Blue Peter's "here's one I made earlier" creations.

He'll also be sure to get stuck in on the challenges that are thrown at the presenters on the show.

When the Derry-born lad isn't working, he enjoys spending time with his family eating pizza and watching TV, as well as driving his car.

He claims he has a "boring life", but Adam loves to travel and meet new people, experiencing their cultures, and has jetted off to destinations such as the USA and Thailand.

The latest addition to Blue Peter follows in the footsteps of fellow Northern Ireland presenters Caron Keating and presenter No30, Zoe Salmon.

Speaking of joining the show, Adam said: "I'm super excited to become Blue Peter presenter No40. I am humbled and ecstatic to be part of such a legendary production.

"It's kind of weird – in a super exciting way – that the show I once watched when I was younger, is now the show I will be presenting along with the talented Lindsey, Richie, Mwaksy and of course, Henry.

"I can' wait to get stuck in, even with the challenges they throw at me, though I am hoping none of them involve cheese – I hate cheese!"

His first challenge has already been announced and, luckily, there is no cheese involved.

However Adam will be thrown into the deep end with a mountain rescue challenge, being winched down a cliff face to complete training with the Buxton Mountain Rescue team.

Blue Peter Editor Ellen Evans, said: "Adam really impressed us during his auditions, he's a natural in front of the camera but he's also very funny, incredibly warm, brilliant with kids and also perhaps a little bit mischievous which the Blue Peter audience will absolutely love."

Blue Peter airs live on CBBC Thursdays at 5.30pm and is also available on BBC iPlayer
